Kim is the founder/director of the SOULdiers Company, started in 2006, and is proud to see that it has grown into an established, reputable street dance company in Vancouver’s dance community. She feels so lucky that she gets to share her love and passion for the hip hop and funk-styles culture with this audition-based, semi-professional dance company. The dream is to one day make it the official “School of hip hop”.
Kim is also the director of Project Soul, her professional street dance crew that have performed a 45 minute educational street dance show over 400 times throughout the BC school system for the past 3 years. Project Soul has also performed in Whitehorse for Cypher 4 Change and also just finished a Northern Ontario contract. Her goal for Project Soul is to connect with and educate youth about Hip Hop culture.
Aside from directing SOULdiers and Project Soul, Kim loves performing in front of an audience. Kim’s personal career has taken her on an exciting journey from more traditional styles to street dance. Her ultimate highlight in her career was performing in the LA staged show “Groovaloos”, where she was able to showcase her multidisciplinary talents in bgirling, jazz, tap, modern, salsa, house, and hip hop. In terms of film, she has choreographed for the feature film “The Possession” currently playing in theatres. She has also filmed a couple episodes of “Hellcats” starring Ashley Tisdale as well as “Rags”, “Hip hop Mom”, “Caleb’s Hope”, “Spectacular”, “Kickin’ it Old Skool”, “Another Cinderella Story”, “Centre Stage 2”, “The Lost Boys II” and “The L Word”.
Traveling the world with dance, she has performed in China, Japan, Brazil, Korea, and all over the US and Canada. Some of her stage work includes the Dance Centre’s 10 Year Anniversary Gala, the RE/Max Western Conference, Winterfest, Pop-Up Stages, Dancers for A Small Stage, Brief Encounters, dancing as the opening act for Grand Master Flash and Swollen Members, Miss Universe Japan, and touring with the Rhythmatix. She not only travels to perform but to continue to battle in different disciplines of street dance specializing in locking and breaking.
She is the winner of the Last One Stands locking competition in 2010, All Styles winner at the Honour Roll 2012 and Seattle at the Sweet 16 2012. Kim can also be found performing and training with her crew Vancity Lockers. She hopes to keep challenging herself as a dancer as long as she possibly can.
As you can tell. . . this isn’t a workshop you will want to miss!!
